Terry wants ex-Chelsea teammate as assistant at Derby Football 365 Dec 4, 2020 John Terry is lining up his former Chelsea teammate, Ashley Cole, as a coach at Derby if he becomes their new manager, according to reports. Terry left Chelsea at the end of the 2016/17 season. Up to then, he had spent his whole career at Stamford Bridge, which spanned 18 years. The defender spent one season with Aston Villa before retiring from football in October 2018. Upon retiring, Terry took up a coaching role with Villa. He has been part of Dean Smith’s coaching staff at Villa ever since, and Terry has enjoyed a lot of success at the club in that time. Villa made their return to the Premier League ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. After a late revival, they guaranteed their safety in the top flight for another season.
