John Terry to Land a lucrative job

Terry wants ex-Chelsea teammate as assistant at Derby

Football 365  Dec 4,  2020

John Terry is lining up his former Chelsea teammate, Ashley Cole, as a coach at Derby if he becomes their new manager, according to reports.

Terry left Chelsea at the end of the 2016/17 season. Up to then, he had spent his whole career at Stamford Bridge, which spanned 18 years.

The defender spent one season with Aston Villa before retiring from football in October 2018. Upon retiring, Terry took up a coaching role with Villa.

He has been part of Dean Smith’s coaching staff at Villa ever since, and Terry has enjoyed a lot of success at the club in that time.

Villa made their return to the Premier League ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. After a late revival, they guaranteed their safety in the top flight for another season.

Smith’s side have enjoyed a strong start to the new Premier League season. They currently sit 10th in the table after nine games.

Derby are without a manager after Phillip Cocu was sacked last month. Wayne Rooney has taken interim charge having already been at the club as a player.

The Rams are yet to appoint a new permanent boss. Terry has emerged as a frontrunner for the job, which would be his first go at management.

The Mirror have reported that if Terry gets the job, he would want Cole and MK Dons assistant manager, Luke Williams, to join his backroom staff.

Like Terry, Cole has also cut his teeth in coaching after announcing his retirement. The former England international is currently a coach in Chelsea’s academy.
